Ela combina um <strong data-start="237" data-end="247">triodo</strong>, geralmente usado como oscilador ou amplificador de sinal, e um <strong data-start="312" data-end="323">pentodo</strong>, que atua como amplificador ou misturador de frequência. Essa configuração compacta e versátil tornou a ECF80 muito popular em <strong data-start="451" data-end="497">circuitos de FI (frequência intermediária)</strong> e <strong data-start="500" data-end="522">conversão de sinal</strong>, sendo também encontrada sob a designação americana <strong data-start="575" data-end="583">6BL8</strong>.
